Sutherland has an upright columnar form, is extremely hardy and tolerant of dry sites. Sutherland’s light green foliage turns yellow in fall. It has yellow pea-like flowers hanging below the branches in mid spring. The smooth, olive green bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape. It does best in full sun to partial shade, preferring dry to average moisture.
